WARMfest is proud to host a showing of of Montreal‘s documentary, “The Past Is a Grotesque Animal“.

of-montreal On Friday, August 29th, starting at 8:45pm, WARMfest will be screening “The Past Is a Grotesque Animal“, a feature-length documentary about of Montreal and, particularly, front-man Kevin Barnes. Directed by Jason Miller, the feature saw its official release earlier this summer via Oscilloscope Laboratories. Filmed during the creation of Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?, of Montreal’s eighth studio album, the documentary’s title alludes to Edward Albee’s play, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and specifically mentions Georges Bataille’s novella Story of the Eye.

Synopsis: A personal, accessible look at an otherwise inaccessible artist — Kevin Barnes — whose pursuit to make transcendent music at all costs sees him constantly re-evaluating the value of art and human relationships.
